Starting in August, the flurry of invitations began appearing, and, by mid- to late September, just as I was editing the final stories for our 2018 issue of Westchester/Hudson Valley Weddings (hitting stands late November), the deluge of invites from top designers and publicists to Bridal Fashion Week in New York City was in full swing.

I have to admit, there are worse things than being inundated with invitations from renowned designers, like Mark Zunino and Pnina Tornai, to the bridal industry’s biggest fashion event of the year, comprising scores of runway shows in Manhattan in which designers debut their latest collections, showcasing the newest trends and styles for the coming year. In fact, as I was in the throes of converging deadlines, the hardest part was choosing which shows to attend.

This year, I was wowed, not only by the big names who, when it comes to bridal design, can really do no wrong, but by the collections of a few lesser known — at least by mainstream standards — designers.

You’ll have to wait for our new issue to see our take and to read interviews with star designers on the latest trends, but, for now, I wanted to share some designs from the 2018 collection of a designer you may not (although, if you’re especially fashion-savvy, you may) be familiar with: Michal Medina.

Medina, who is based in Israel and has been designing gowns for 25 years, is well loved and respected in the bridal-design world. Her latest collection, “Modern Love,” is feminine and luxurious, ultra-romantic, but with a bit of an edge — a geometric one, in fact, inspired by the Art Deco design of the 1920s.

Take a look at some of the designs in her collection and you’ll see some great examples of fine design and craftsmanship — from the gorgeous fabrics to the attention to the tiniest details to fabulous finishing.
