Global warming are you doing your bit

As a student, it is really important to be aware of environmental issues and their long-term effects. There are many issues which are breaking the spine of our environment; one of them is the issue of global warming. Because it is one of the global environmental issues, one must know about it. Also, one thing about being aware is that we can work in the right direction and do our bit to save the environment.

What is Global Warming?

In simple terms, global warming is the rise in the average temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere and oceans. The phenomenon is getting severe day by day because of the rising level of carbon dioxide and other pollutants. Let us look at the steps to reduce global warming.

Causes of Global Warming

One of the primary causes of global warming is the high levels of carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere. Harmful human actions such as deforestation and burning of fossil fuels increase the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This in turn contributes towards global warming. This leads to rise in temperature and hence climate change.

Let’s Reduce Global Warming

Think Conservation: Yes! Think conservation. Everything you do should be well thought of. Are your actions affecting the environment and contributing to pollution? Well, you need to think conservation by avoiding the wastage of resources.

Energy Conservation: Simple steps lead to bigger changes in life. One should try to use energy-efficient products. Simple things such as switching off the lights after leaving the place save energy. People have the habit of leaving chargers plugged in even after use; this actually leads to energy wastage. One should remember to unplug chargers and electronic appliances after use. Use heat and air conditioning devices in limits.

Reuse and Recycle: First, we should make sure that we are not contributing towards the waste but making efforts to reduce waste. Second, we should encourage the reusing of things rather than throwing them away. Last, recycling waste is important. Things such as paper, plastics and newspapers can be recycled and reused. The lesser the waste, the lesser energy will be used in waste management. Thus, we can prevent increasing the levels of CO2.

Use CFL Bulbs: Even simple things such as changing your regular light bulbs to CFL bulbs can make a big difference.

Public Transport and Car Pooling – Why not? Too many vehicles lead to emission of large amounts of carbon dioxide and other harmful gases. So, instead of using personal cars, people can indulge in car pooling or car sharing. This way, we can reduce the consumption of fuel and the level of pollution.

Deforestation is Deadly: Planting trees is important; similarly, avoiding deforestation is also important. When we plant a tree, it takes years to grow; however, cutting a tree hardly takes any time. Therefore, if deforestation continues, planting a tree cannot help in the short run. We all should discourage deforestation.

Afforestation is Vital: Discouraging deforestation also means planting more trees. Go ahead and plant a tree today for a safe environment tomorrow.

Spread the Word: The most important thing is to make people aware. Many people do not even know what global warming is and how it is caused. Now, you know about it, inform people and encourage them to adopt methods which will contribute towards the benefit of the environment.
