WILMETTE, Ill. — Peter Max Gutheim, a veteran furniture industry sales representative and executive, died June 5 at the age of 87.
As a graduate of Admiral Farragut Prep School and New York University, Gutheim joined the U.S. Army where he rose to 1st Lieutenant during the Korean War. After the war, he worked as a salesman and vice president of Raymor.
Gutheim met his wife, Elaine, while they were both working for a furniture showroom Chicago’s Merchandise Mart.
Eventually, Gutheim opened opened his own showroom, Gutheim & Associates, which specialized in contemporary furniture and accessories with long-term relationships with retailers Wickes Furniture, Crate and Barrel, Brook Furniture Rental, Homemakers, Montgomery Wards and Sears.
Gutheim is survived by his wife Elaine, two daughters, one son and eight grandchildren.
Donations in Gutheim’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association in honor of Dr.Neil Stone.
