iPhone 7 to Sport 3.5mm Headphone Jack, Dual-SIM Trays, 256GB Storage: Report

HIGHLIGHTS

  • iPhone 7 will reportedly offer a 256GB storage option.
  • It may come with dual-SIM support.
  • The 3.5mm headphone jack pegged to remain.

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 7 has been making headlines for a while now. Rumours and leaks have been aplenty, and the latest ones bring news about the development in production, and some image leaks revealing information on storage, SIM slots, and the much rumoured 3.5mm headphone jack.

This fresh leak comes out of a Chinese repair shop called Rock Fix (via Engadget). The shop has posted some images of alleged iPhone 7 parts online hinting at possible key specs. First up, a picture of the 4.7-inch iPhone 7Lightning cable assembly indicates that the 3.5mm headphone jack still remains. The image also shows that the headphone jack slot is still attached contradicting previous reports. Past leaks claimed thatApple would ditch the 3.5mm audio jack in favour of sound accessories being attached through the Lightning port or Bluetooth.

A separate image shows that there might be dual-SIM trays, a first in Apple’s iPhone lineup. There’s also a SanDisk memory chip revealing a possible 256GB option. This is in line with previous reports that claim the discontinuation of the 16GB base model and its replacement with a 32GB offering, while the 256GB storage model will be available at the top end. Apart from 32GB and 256GB, Apple is tipped to offer a 128GB storage variant. Other parts like the screen panels reveal the two sizes of the smartphone, and the dual-lens camera rumoured for the larger variant.

A separate leak by tipster Onleaks claims that the mass production of the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 has begun. The production is being handled by Pegatron, who is only sticking to the base variant. Foxconn is said to have bagged the larger variant’s production, however no details on the production status of the dual camera-bearing iPhone 7 Plus have been disclosed.

So far, the iPhone 7 is expected to sport antenna bands on the edges, and come in three variants – iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and iPhone 7 Premium. The larger variant is said to sport 3GB of RAM to accommodate the dual camera setup, and also come with the Smart Connector at the back for connecting accessories.
