After KMC floated the proposal to set up yoga clinics to supplement the more conventional courses of treatment that are available now, the state health department not only endorsed it, but has also written to the Union health ministry to approve the project and provide funds.
A state health department delegation also attended a meeting in Delhi last month and participated in an interactive session with health ministry officials on the necessity of setting up yoga clinics in Kolkata.
If the Union health ministry approves KMC’s proposal, the civic body will set up yoga clinics attached to its existing ward health units, which are located all over the city. Side by side, KMC’s health department will recruit yoga trainers based on their qualifications and experience. A board of eminent yoga practitioners will keep an eye on the module and methods of such alternative modes of healing at KMC’s clinics
