SANTA ROSA: Design festive holiday wreaths and garlands

Visit the historic Luther Burbank Home and Gardens Dec. 2 and 3 and enjoy a 38-year-old community tradition. Experience a tour of the home decorated for the holidays inside and out. As for refreshments, this year Chops Teen Club will provide spiced tea and cookies. For shoppers, the Carriage House Museum & Gift Shop will be offering a limited supply of the book “Santa Rosa: A Nineteenth Century Town” autographed by the authors Gaye Le Baron, Dee Blackman and Joann Mitchell.

It also will be featuring three local jewelers, as well as fabric wreaths and table runners crafted by Luther Burbank volunteers.

The fee is $3 but children under 12 are free. Free parking is available at First and D streets, as well as free rides on the “Rosie-the-Trolley.”

When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, corner of Santa Rosa and Sonoma Avenues in downtown Santa Rosa.

SANTA ROSA: Design festive wreaths and garlands

Sue Lovelace will speak about how gardens offer a variety of flora for holiday arrangements, wreaths and garlands on Dec. 2. She will share her strategies for collecting and preparing plant material along with personal design ideas.

Lovelace will detail what tools and supplies to keep on hand and show slides of many earlier creations. 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Rincon Valley Library, 6959 Montecito Blvd., Santa Rosa.

SANTA ROSA: Healthy soils and roots

A class Dec. 2 will take a deep dive into soil nutrition and roots, delving into how to create the nutrients and drainage necessary for optimum growth.

Many aspects will be covered, including “green” manure, composting and cover crops.

Maximum class size is 30. The class fee is $71, the materials fee is $20, and the registration fee is $2. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Emeritus Hall 1518, Santa Rosa Junior College campus, 1501 Mendocino Ave., Santa Rosa.

HEALDSBURG: Bring the outdoors in with holiday decor

Master Gardener Ellyn Pelikan will give a free talk about holiday decorations for clever gardeners who want to bring the outdoors inside to celebrate the season.

Pelikan will share some ideas that will appeal to gardeners eager to try some inventive tactics.

CLOVERDALE: Use plants, to attract butterflies, pollinators

Master Gardener Walt Hickey will speak about how to attract beneficial wildlife to your own backyard Dec. 9.

He will show how to attract a host of songbirds, butterflies, hummingbirds, bees and other pollinators to your garden through careful plant selection.

SANTA ROSA: Learn sustainable gardening

Diane Kenworthy and Kathleen Fitzgerald-Orr, specialists in Integrated Pest Management, will speak on Monday before the Santa Rosa Garden Club.

The pair lead a group of Master Gardeners who have advanced training in managing garden pest in a natural and sustainable way.

Non members are invited to the attend the meeting. 1 p.m., Luther Burbank Art and Garden Center, 2050 Yulupa, Santa Rosa.
