Design’s biggest week of the year arrives next week, as hundreds of thousands gather at Salone del Mobile 2016, also known as Milan Design Week, to see what’s next in furniture, lighting, interiors, and more. This year, there will be some remixing of icons (such as fashion designer Paul Smith’s psychedelic rendition of the cactus coat rack), launching of entirely new brands (like the plastics furniture brand Qeeboo), plus a bit of brand extension (home goods by Swarovski, anyone?). Here’s a closer look at what you can expect from the world’s largest furniture fair.

Mindcraft16, an exhibition of Danish design curated by Copenhagen studio GamFratesi, will include these plexiglas lamps (inspired by Scotland’s west coast and early Star Wars films) by Danish designer Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt. (via Clerici 10)

Italian ceramics company Mutina is releasing two new collections of patterned geometric tiles by London studio Barber and Osgerby. (Hall 24 Stand E 11 F 08)

Italian designer Stefano Giovannoni will launch Qeeboo, a new online brand focused on affordable, high-quality plastic furniture and decor. The debut line includes 25 objects from half a dozen well-known designers.

British designer Tom Dixon collaborates with quartz manufacturer Caesarstone on The Restaurant, a presentation of four conceptual kitchens inspired by the four elements. New contemporary porcelain brand 2016/, a project based in Japan’s famed Arita porcelain region in Saga Prefecture, is debuting a full range of pottery collections, featuring 300 pieces developed through a collaboration with 16 international designers. (via delle Erbe 2, Milan)

Now in its seventh year, Wallpaper Handmade will celebrate craftsmanship with an exhibit of objects, furniture, accessories and more, designed around 2016’s theme: hostelry and world travel.
